Flies and Cloves

Now that the warm weather is upon us, we will be eating outdoors more often. You will have your invited quests and your not so invited quests. Like the annoying fly. But did you know you can get rid of flies indoors and outdoors as well, with cloves.

If you are outdoors or indoors, by placing some cloves into a apple of any kind will keep flies at bay. Place the apple in the middle of your table area and you will be fly free.

Taking a small bowl and placing some cloves into it will also keep those nasty flies away. If you take some clove oil, and add it to your cleaning water or cleaning spray, not only will it keep flies away it will make your house smell wonderful.

Taking clove stems with the cloves attached and hanging them around the home will also keep your uninvited quests away.

If you have flies hanging around your barn or dog house, place some clove powder in a stocking and hang it near by, and your fly problem will soon be over.

Gwen's Blends Product Review

I was brushing my rottweiler today, and my husband brought the mail in. There was a product from Gwen's blends for pet shampoo. So I decided since it was nice out why not give the dogs a bath.

The shampoo is a oatmeal based product, that left all my dogs with a nice shiny coat. And since they are all black, the shine was very radiant. When you open the bottle it is a nice fresh clean smell, that lingered on the dogs after they we're washed and dried.

It states that it will leave your dog feeling calm and relaxed, and they sure seemed to be.

The product is made with one hundred percent all natural shampoo that has no chemicals.

Gwen's blends have many other products, so if you are interested please visit their website at www.gwensblends.com.

Prissy's Product Review

In 2008 my family had vacationed in Georgia, and we loved it. They have so many great food products. And such friendly people. So I was excited when I received two products from Prissy's. The company started in the kitchen of Priscilla Oxley. Her products we're made with the sweet Vidalia sweet onion, and tasted so great, her business took off from there.

The first product I tasted and tested was Prissy's Pumpkin Butter. When this is prepared, it is cooked slow and low just to the right sweetness. And when you taste it you will taste the love that it was made with. I tyred it on some toast this morning for breakfast. It went on so smooth and was nice and creamy just like plain butter. I think later I will use this in some cakes or cookies, the taste was wonderful. You get the texture of butter and the taste of pumpkin.

The second product I tryed on some chicken. It was a bottle of Vidalia hot sauce with Vidalia onion and peach. This is one of their most popular items. It was very good. Not to hot, I would say more on the mild side. I made a marinade and dipping sauce with it for some chicken wings. My entire family was licking their fingers after eating dinner tonite.

If you are interested in the many great products and gifts that Prissy has to offer please visit them at their website www.prissys.com . You will be happy you did.

Fast growing vines

The best vines to grow on a trellis is your climbing vines. Vines are used over doorways and as accents in your garden, especially where other plants will not grow.

You can use annual vines, that grow very quickly. But these will only last one time a season. Morning Glory's grow ten feet in two months and are very pretty. They are the best choice for sun or partial shade, and love moist soil.

Your perennials will of course come back time after time. Hydrangea is one that grows quickly, and does great in partial shade and moist soil.

There are benefits to climbing vines, they disguise unattractive areas around the home, and look great in areas that plants will not grow in. They add a accent to your mailbox or fence post as well. They do great just about any where even in a rock garden or up along side a stone wall. They add color and grace just about any place. They are easy to grow, and need little maintenance.

Blazin Brittle Product Review

Today I received three bags of brittle from Blazin Brittle company. Smoky chipotle, cinnamon girl, and ginger sunset.

The first up for review was the Blazin smoky chipotle. This was a great brittle, that my husband tyred and really enjoyed. It is made with organic sugar, pecans, corn syrup, water, baking soda, butter and natural spices and flavors. On the dark side the brittle really tasted smoky just like chipotle. The brittle was on the dark side from being dark roasted.

Next up for tasting was the Cinnamon Girl, this really was good, just like eating cinnamon toast. All the brittle is handmade from TX. And you taste the love in every bite.

The last taste test was on the Ginger sunset, this brittle was like eating ginger snaps. Very good brittle.

These brittles as I said are darker than others, this is due to the organic sugar they use and the way they roast their pecans.

If you love brittle you should try these, they are great. To order visit them on the web at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlazinBrittle

Rashes from your gardens weeds

Almost every home has some type of garden or attractive flowers or veggies. But within them are weeds as well. These pesky plants are not only unsightly but some cause you to get a rash. To avoid this happening to you let's talk about them.

First is the cotton bush, a evergreen shrub with narrow leaves and white tube like flowers. The ballonlike fruits have green spines and the seed has a tuft of hair. These are all poisonous and the seedlings are more toxic than the mature version of the plant. If you are weeding you want to avoid the sap this will cause a rash on your skin. Other parts of the plant can even give you a upset stomach.

Next is your pellitory-asthma weed, this is a perennial, with fine hairs growing on the stem and leaves. The stems are reddish, and the leaves are lance shaped green. It has small little greenish flowers. This weed causes pollen, with allergic reactions. The hairs can also stick to your clothes. And this can cause skin rashes, that can be quite severe. This plant can also cause asthma, conjunctives and hay fever.

You also can get a rash from the stinging nettle weed. This is the most common weed and is well deserved of its reputation. It will cause a pain full and itchy rash on your skin. There are several types of this weed from scrub like to dwarf. It is a perennial herb with a oval and lance shape leaf. It also has toothed margins, with hair covered leaves, and tiny flower clusters. The rash can be very painful and irritated.

Also there is the giant hog weed, a very potent garden weed that you will likely come in contact with, and is a noxious weed. The sap when it is combined with moisture and sunlight will cause a very severe skin irritation, and blistering, scarring and can also cause blindness. It grows from New York to PA and as far as the Pacific Coast. Very common in Washington and Oregon. It can be a very tall plant, with leaves that grow 5 feet wide. If you ever touch this weed you will want to call a doctor immediately.

Tomato Pruning

If you have tomatoes growing in your garden, you will need to prune. You want to keep your fruit off the ground and healthy. Pruning will also provide you with a abundant harvest.
If your plants are getting to large for their space, you know it's pruning time. To prune always use sharp clean shears, this will help prevent your plants from spreading disease.
You want to pinch branch tips all through the growing season, to encourage your tomato plants to get nice and bushy, and full. You will only remove the last set of two leaves. This will include the stem, each time you pinch your branch.
Remove the entire unwanted or non blooming branches, this help keeps your plants contained. You only want enough to make shade for developing fruit and prevent sun scald.
Continuously make sure you remove any dead or faded foliage from the plants. You only want growth that is green and healthy. Never cut branches that are flowering.
You can train your tomatoes to grow on your trellis, this saves garden space. Grow vertically, and it will be easier to harvest. Any stray branches can be tucked, or removed completely, if they do not have flowers.

Spices for your perfect burger

There are alot of ingredients you can put in your burger. But some make your burger just right. Salt and pepper are the most common. You can add pepper to your burger all you like, but never add the salt until the burger is almost done cooking. Salt will suck out the moisture, and will also dissolve any protein. The best salt to add is kosher, or sea salt. For pepper I love to use freshly grounded from peppercorns.
If you are looking for a Italian burger, why not add some garlic, oregano, thyme, basil and rosemary. This is a great spice combo for your burger that is then topped with sun dried tomatoes and fresh basil leaves.
For some Indian burgers, try adding some curry or garam masala. Another blend is cumin, coriander, turmeric and cardamom, cinnamon, clove, chili powder, ginger and mustard, fenugreek and pepper. This makes a intense burger Indian style.
If you like it with heat, go Cajun style. Make a spice mix of garlic, onion powder, white pepper, black pepper and hot and sweet paprika, thyme and oregano. Add any hot pepper you like to your spice mix.
Don't forget a Asian burger, with a mix of wasabi powder and sesame seeds, with some szechuan peppercorns, and some soy sauce for flavor. Your quests will love this.
How about making a southwest burger with a Latin flavor. Try some garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, oregano, cayenne and crushed red pepper. Then top your burger with avocado and chopped cilantro. Yum
For the plain classic burger, make your taste buds sing with just plain ingredients. Add some crushed peppercorns, garlic, onion powder, salt and pepper. And top with cheese, lettuce and tomato.

Yesterday

Yesterday, my daughter will be gone seven years. It always feels like it was just yesterday. She was my first born baby girl. She was beautiful inside and out. With a smile on her face everyday, she would give you the world. When you loose a child you have a permanent hole in your heart. Some people think as the years go by it gets easier. It doesn't. In fact it gets harder. You think about how old they would be, would they be married, all the what would be's. But she did give me one thing and that was my Savannah. She has her smile, her eyes, her personality, and so much more. But still the hole in my heart will be there until we are together again. Her brother is getting married in August, and she will not be there to see it, or be apart of it, but she will be looking down upon him, and sending her love and good wishes. They say everything happens for a reason, I have not found out why yet. There are so many things about her I miss. But I have my memories, and I cherish them everyday. I just hope she can feel my love, and that God shows her how much her family miss's her and how much we love her. R.I.P my beautiful daughter Danielle Villari. You are my guardian angel.

DIY Green Beauty Products

Did you know that most of your green beauty products can be made with ingredients that you already have right in your own kitchen. With everyone concerned with the enviroment more people are using healthy products on their bodies. These green beauty products do not have any preservatives like parabens, which damage your skin. Also the green beauty products are biodegradable.

If you don't have the ingredients already you can buy them. Some things you will need are waxes, butters, and cream bases. Other such ingredients may be fragrance oils or essential oils. Avocados, lemons, vanilla extract and olive oil, along with honey and crushed herbs will be other natural ingredients for your homemade beauty products.

You can make a nice mineral blush that will give you a rosy glow to your cheeks. With just two teaspoons of Bordeaux mica and one teaspoon of oriental beige mica and 1/2 teaspoon of splendid blue mica, you will make your own blush. Just by mixing all the ingredients in a small plastic bowl until the colors are well blended. A mini grinder will get rid of solid pieces of mica. Store your blush in a plastic container for future uses.

A nice green body scrub, that will moisturize and exfoliate, is made of two and a half cups of brown sugar, one half cup of sweet almond oil, and one tablespoon of Shea butter, add four tablespoons of honey, with two drops of bergamot essential oil, and one drop of neroli essential oil. Stir your sugar and almond oil first, stir it well. Add your Shea butter and honey and gently whip the mixture with a mixer until it forms a thick paste. You can store this in a glass jar for future use.

Cape Cod Potato Chip Review

Today I received a case of potato chips from Cape Cod Potato Chips. Based in MA, the company began as the dream of Steve and Lynn Bernard. The chips we're cooked in their kitchen for many years. July 4th, 1980, their dream finally came true and they set up shop.

These great tasting chips have a big crunch, do to being kettle cooked. Only the best ingredients are used for their products. The potatoes they use are the freshest from the east coast, and are shipped daily from the farmers they use. The chips even today are cooked the same old fashion way. They have over half a dozen flavors in their potato chips.

They we're very kind and sent several flavors to test. Of course who won't want to taste test potato chips. The first flavor we tyred we're the original kettle cooked. This bag was ate with a grilled hamburger. The chips we're very crunchy, and so full of potato flavor.

With so many flavors to try, there was no way to test them all. But one can only say if they taste anything like the first bag, they will be awesome.

With summer here, and all the cookouts coming up, I will surely be serving each bag of chips with the food.

It's great that they make original and less fat chips for those watching their diet but still looking for a good chip.

If you would like more info on these great tasting products please visit the company at www.capecodchips.com . Also find them on facebook, where you can follow along.

Sandals and Your Feet

Most of us for the summer wear sandals or thongs. But these type shoes do not offer support for our feet. They tend to make your feet hurt with blisters and other painful issues. Thongs also offer little arch support, and results in tendonitis or sprained ankels from tripping. These types of shoes are also not for long periods of time as far as wearing. But I do know some tips that may help with wearing these types of shoes.

If you insert cushioning into the sole of your shoe, this will increase comfort for your sole. There are many products available for thong shoes. Some will sit under the ball of your foot, this prevents the foot from sliding forward in your shoe. Heel cushions are great for relieving any pressure on your heel. There are also strap stickers to prevent your straps from rubbing against your foot. There are also stickers for the bottom of the shoe.

To reduce friction, try band aid friction block. This works by reducing the friction of your shoe rubbing on the sandal against your skin. It almost looks like deodorant, and works great. It's like wearing a invisible band aid. It helps prevent blisters or getting raw skin.

Mole skin works wonderful to. This is great protection between the thong and the toe, where you most often get blisters. Mole skin also keeps you from getting tender spots, corns and calluses from your sandals. It also helps with painful friction. Just cut to fit and your feet will love you for it.
